Singers
who join “Joyful Noise” can expect to learn how to breathe and sing properly for
good tone and pitch; perform as a group; follow a conductor; sing various
traditional, sacred, and classical songs -- and in harmony; and learn new music
by rote as well as by note reading and blending.
Joyful
Noise performs at Homewood retirement home monthly. These concerts are uplifting
to the residents and aid the students in gaining confidence with their music.
This is our ministry.
Any
child who is at least eight years old and able to sit still for instruction is
welcome to audition. Ability to read is helpful, but not essential. The audition
consists of scales and pitch matching and singing a familiar song with
accompaniment; a prepared song is optional. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from
2:30-3:30pm in Walkersville and
begin mid to late September. A
parent will be present at each rehearsal to assist in keeping order.
Monthly
performances are scheduled monthly at Homewood on Thursdays at 2:30. A concert
is usually held for friends and family at the end of each semester (Friday, Dec.
28 and Friday, May 2). The cost will be approximately $35 per student per
semester to cover music and printing costs. Rehearsal tapes will be provided as
needed. Downloading of practice songs is highly encouraged, at a cost of .99
each.
